Production Push 20. December 2006

December 20, 2006

Just pushed a new version of the site. The push went smoothly and there was no downtime.

Today’s push fixes some bugs in the new view document page and added a few other features that we’ll be ready to talk about in more detail after the first of the year.

This will probably be our last big push of 2006 — happy holidays and happy new year to our users throughout the world.

Production Push 14. December 2006

December 14, 2006

We just completed our production push; things went very smoothly and total downtime was about 12 minutes. Here’s what’s new:

  • Approver.com View Document pageA completely new View Document page intended specifically to make the review and approval experience easier. This new page addresses several things that users had requested since we launched, including paring back the amount of widgetry on the document page. In addition, some of you had asked that comments be made a more integral and obvious part of the review experience, and that a message from you to your reviewers could be placed prominently at the top of the page. The new View Document page now provides all these things.
  • We did a complete revamp of our email alerting system. The obvious thing you’ll notice about our email alerts is that we’re now sending them in plain text as well as aesthetically-enhanced HTML format. The HTML format has some practical benefits as well (we added some convenient links to frequently-requested pages).
  • Fixed a bug with password recovery in which a user who had not yet verified their email address after registering could proceed with password recovery, thereby generating a confusing response from the site. (We’re pretty sure this only affected one user.)

There’s one other big feature that we’ve alluded to on the blog but we’re not quite ready to officially release yet. (Sorry for being coy about this, but it’s a big deal to us and we really want to get it right.) We’re going to extend some advance invitations to existing Approver.com users to try out this feature. If all goes well, we’ll release it to everyone in the next week. If you’d like a peek at this and you don’t receive an invitation by Thursday evening, leave us feedback and we’ll put you on the list.

Problem with desktop widget resolved

December 6, 2006

There was a problem with the desktop widget this week — new users who attempted to log in to use the widget weren’t able to authenticate because of a configuration change on our side.
This only affected a few users (it wasn’t a problem if you’d logged in and used the widget before this week) and no data was lost. The problem is now 100% resolved, so if you haven’t done so already, now would be a terrific time to download and try out our desktop widget — it’s a very handy way to see when you have a document to be reviewed on Approver.com.
